Cal State Fullerton has dropped its' Division 1 wrestling and gymnastics programs today, effective immediately. More details will emerge, but the axe has come down. It is another blow to wrestling, which has been hit hard in the last few weeks. It is especially tough on California and the west coast which has seen dozens of programs eliminated in the last few decades, leaving kids limited places to chase their dreeam and get an education.

Coach Dan Hicks has raised money to supplement the school budget the last several years, but last summer was informed the university wanted to start having two years of budget raised in advance each year.  The horrible move leaves just two public Division 1 schools in the state of California that offer wrestling.  This in a state with over 25,000 high school boys wrestling. To make sure it didn't set itself up for a Title IX case, the school also eliminated gymnastics, which is coached by Jill Hicks, the wrestling coaches' wife. Talk about a university that knows how to treat people. Fullerton gymnastics competes at the NCAA Championships next weekend.
