Both theams were not at full strength.  After the dust settled, two of the top junior college programs in the nation were tied at 21. Both of these teams will battle it out for the Regional Championship against each other, with NJCAA seeds and births on the line.  The Region 18 Championships will be held at Highline, also a top 10 team in NJCAA.

North Idaho edges Southwestern

The Lakers hosted fellow Region 18 school, North Idaho on Thursday night and narrowly lost.  The Lakers were able to win five of the ten matches but went down to defeat, 22-19.

Lake Stevens ahead in Team Race at Tri-State

After the first day, defending Washington State Champs Lake Stevens High is winning the team race.  Lake Stevens has 128 points and in second is Flathead (MT) with 98 points.  University High (WA) has 96, Tahoma (WA) 94.5, Deer Park (MT) 93, Hermiston (OR) 89, and Washington AA State Champs Orting has 85.  Interviews and matches will be up tomorrow!  Check back for some great action.

North Idaho over Highline, 26-12

North Idaho continued their good start on the 2009 campaign, picking up two wins on the night. They were victorious over Cerritos College and Highline.  Highline fought hard and was able to win 3 of the 10 matches, and fell short in 2 other close matches on the night.  North Idaho picked up bonus points at 174, 184, and Heavyweight. Roger McCovey, the freshman heavyweight out of California continued his excellence start on the young season. Jason Gray of Highline won a close match over Eric Luna in a battle of two talented freshmen. Returning all american Aaron Smith of Highline won by injury default for the Highline squad.

Broncos over Cards, 30-12

Boise State flexed its' muscle over North Idaho College on Saturday night, winning 30-12.  The junior college power was able to win 3 bouts on the night, including winning two matches over former NCAA qualifiers. Boise State wrestled several starters up a weight class, including Jason Chamberlain and Adam Hall who came away with major decision wins. 

Levi Jones a, a past NCAA qualifier at 141, wrestled up a weight class at 149.  He was pinned by North Idaho true freshman Eric Luna in the third period.  Kameron Jackson, a JC all american last year at 184, defeated former NCAA qualifier Matt Casperson at 197. Boise State won seven out of the ten matches on the night, including scoring bonus points in six of them.

North Idaho wins 600th

North Idaho College got their season off to a positive start on Friday night, defeating Montana State Northern in Coeur d' Alene.  The Cardinals won 30-6 and notched their 600th all-time victory in program history.  Kameron Jackson had a big win over NIC alumni and former NJCAA National Champion Evan Mattingly. The win marked the latest milestone for a program that has been a junior college powerhouse, winning 13 NJCAA National Championships.
