ASU gets set for wrestle-off event

Arizona State will have an intra-squad match on Friday night at the Riches Center, with a couple very competitive match-ups scheduled. The event will be used in part to help determine starting positions.  Several of the ASU wrestlers competed last weekend in the Sunksist International freestyle event as well. Below is a list of scheduled matchups.  Note: the match at 184 will feature 2x NCAA all american Raymond Jordan, now on Coach Shawn Charles staff at ASU.

Pendleton wins at Sunkist International

Chris Pendleton won a close decision at 84 kg against longtime rival Ben Askren to take home the gold.  Askren had returned to wrestling after a year off of compeition following the 2008 Olympic Games. He moved up from his Olympic weight class of 74 kg. 

Other notables also winning titles were Sam Hazewinkle at 55kg, Nate Gallick at 60 kg, Jared Frayer at 66 kg. Gallick defeated Coleman Scott in a match between highly ranked U.S. athletes.
