The Clackamas Community College wrestling team has announced its 2010-11 season schedule which is highlighted by trips to the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, NV.  and NWCA National Dual Meet Championships in Cedar Falls, IA.  Last season the Cougars finished 15th at the ever tough TOC, highest finish among non-division I teams and captured 4th at the National Duals.

 

In addition to Conference duals with Region 18 teams the Cougars will host NAIA's Montana State-Northern on January 14th at 4:00 p.m. and then have a night cap with Conference rival North Idaho College at 7:00 p.m.  to celebrate Alumni Night.

 

Important Notes:  This year's NJCAA National Championships will be held in Spokane, WA at the Spokane Events Center.  The Cougars want your support and if you are interested in attending the event you can contact the athletic department for ticket information.  It was 40 years ago this season when the Cougar Matmen won the NJCAA National Championships and what a great way to celebrate that momentous occasion by rooting on the current team to victory in February.

 

Cal State Bakersfield is having a fight night much like Cal Poly, with proceeds going to help the cash strapped program stay afloat for seasons to come. Basically the school has forced the Roadrunners into raising their own budget, at least for the next few years. They already faced off and defeated elimination, and are now continuing their fundraising.

Coach Steve Lampe, Northwest Tech Athletic Director and Wrestling Coach is launching the first ever wrestling team at Northwest Tech this week with practice in motion.  Northwest Tech is honored to be able to offer such an experienced coach with the credentials of Coach Lampe.  He has previously won an NJCAA Championship and had many top teams at Colby CC.

Coach Lampe was pleased to announce the following students as part of the wrestling team:  Daniel Gomez, Wamego, Kansas; Danny Floyd, Osborne, Kansas; Jackie Reed,  Pretty Prairie, Kansas; Taylor Wuthrow, Abilene, Kansas; Loyd O’Neal, Goodland, Kansas; Lorenzo Delgado, Goodland, Kansas; Caleb Crump, Tucson, Arizona; Ricardo Valdez, Rio Rico, Arizona; Anthony Pike, Tucson, Arizona; Nicholas Gonzalez, Tucson, Arizona; Alex Akers, Tucson, Arizona; Diego Bravo, Tucson, Arizona; Jaime Sierra, Tucson, Arizona; Dan Frann, Johnstown, Colorado; Brandon Downing, Lamar, Colorado; Tyler Hill, Tallahassee, Florida; Chad Kochenower, Kingfisher, Oklahoma; and Aliev Daulet, Nukus, Uzbekistan, Russia.  

“I am excited about the quality of wrestlers we have this season—they are from across the Country; but I know this community will make them feel right at home.” said Coach Lampe.     

Northwest Tech is on the cutting edge. They are the first technical college in the State of Kansas to offer collegiate sports.  “We feel that not only will this be good for the college; but also for the Community:, said Dr. Ed Mills.  

Stanford is rumored to have hired Alex Tirapelle to become the new assistant at the farm.  Tirapelle, a former Illinois standout (2x All American and NCAA runner-up) has been coaching at UC-Davis the last few seasons. he is a California native and seems a good fit for Coach Borelli and the Cardinal.

We will keep our eye on this one, but it is being reported by a few sources. We will look for official word coming out of the Stanford camp this week.

 It has been a busy summer, on and off the mat. As fall gets closer and it gets to be almost time for fall camps to begin, there are some changes to make note of.  The list is far from complete and can be added to. 

Coaching
Arizona State- Head Assistant Brian Snyder leaves the desert after one season Shawn Charles staff and returns to Lincoln.  Snyder will replace Mike Greenfield at his alma mater.

Cal Poly- Mark Perry becomes Co-Head Coach along with John Azevedo.  It is assumed Perry will eventually be given the reigns to run the ship.  Tyrell Todd is coming to Poly as an assistant.

Wyoming- Branch brings on old OSU Cowboy, 2x NCAA Champ Chris Pendelton.

Oklahoma State-As stated before Chris Pendleton, has fled Stillwater for Laramie.  While no replacement has been named, rumors are floating. One rumor has ex Cowboy great and Olympic Champ Kenny Monday heading to Stillwater.

Iowa State- Chris Bono departed as a surprise in mid summer. No replacement has been named yet.  

Northern Colorado-Ben Vombauer left Wyoming and has joined forces with ex BSU teammate, Ben Cherington.

Army- new Head Coach-Joe Heskett left his post as assistant at Ohio State to become the new Head Coach at Army.

Northern Iowa- Doug Schwab, leaves Iowa assistant job to take over UNI program. He hires his brother Mark, Randy Pugh and former UNI assistant Tolly Thompson as assistants.

Virginia-Scott Moore left as associate Head Coach to become assistant at Lock Haven University.

Duke-Glen Lanham comes to Duke as top assistant after a stint at Purdue.

Current Ohio State assistant and 4x Iowa State all American Joe Heskett reportedly has been offered the job and will be named the next Head Wrestling Coach at Army. An official release has not been issued yet, but rumors are flying out east and an announcement appears to be imminent.  Stay tuned for any new developments.

Former San Jose State star Russ Camilerri will be inducted into The National Wrestling Hall of Fame this weekend.  Camilleri was a two time Olympian and won 12 National Championships in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Amazingly, he was the Outstanding Wrestler of the National Championships on six occasions, a feat that has not been matched by anyone. Camilleri was a three time Pacific Coast finalist, winning the championship in 1958.  He finished his college career with a 78-4 record.  San Jose State is another school on the west coast that should have a wrestling program today.

The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners are alive for the 2010-2011 wrestling season. President Mitchell announced this morning that wrestling along with three other sports, would be re-instated.  The story is just beginning to unfold, so stay with us as we try to update the news.  Great job to all involved with the effort to bring back the historical wrestling program.  The community and some real leaders came together and raised a lot of concern, awareness and money.  This is the beginning, as reportedly the sports will have to continue to fundraising for upcoming years, but this gets them some time to continue the effort.

North Marion standout wrestler Cody Randall has decided to continue his career at Clackamas CC. The latest sign by Coach Josh Rhoden continues to re-load a team that has really been on the upswing the past few years. Randall adds to an already growing excellent recruiting class.
