Tri State Preview

December 18, 2009, 11:38am
Fifty teams from four states will invade the small gym of North Idaho College on Friday and Saturday, for the annual Tri State Invitational.  The action promises to be heavy from the first whistle, as several squads battle for trophies.  A few thousand people crowded into a small gym provides for a great environment. Individually, there are several stacked weights that should provide for some great matches and drama.

Teams that look to be in contention are University of Spokane, Lake Stevens, Hermiston, Orting, and Flathead HS out of Kalispell, Montana.  Don't overlook Deer Park either. Lake Stevens, Hermiston,University, Moses Lake, Deer Park and Orting appear to have the most seeded wrestlers in the early seeds, but we will have to see if they hold.  Efrain Aguilar is the preliminarily the top seed at 125, but he was beaten last night in a dual meet.  Aguilar has to contend with Nathan Brown of North Central this weekend.

The 135 weight class looks to be pretty good, as several quality wrestlers will battle it out.  Braden Mowry of Coeur D Alene gets the top seed here.  Others to watch include Josh Lauderdale, Casey george of Lewiston, Steven Walkley of Lake Stevens and Garrett Mann of Orting.

Another quality weight class is 152. Idaho state champion Brandon Richardson, Tyler King of Mountain View, Josh Villani of Lake Stevens, Idaho state champ Colby Kloetzer of Caldwell, and Washington state runner-up Ryan Zumwalt of University make this weight interesting.

Two state champs only get the 5th and 6th seeds at 119 lbs.  Joey Delgado of Hermiston earns the 5th seed. He was an Oregon state champion last year as a freshman. Drew Templeman, goes in as the 6th seed. He was also a state champ as a freshman. Blake Adams of Deer Park is the top seed.

Two Washington state champs earn the top seeds at 160 lbs.  Jacob Mason of University and sophomore Jordan Rogers of Mead gain the top seeds. At 189 pounds, top seeded Taylor Meeks looks to stay on track against a tough field.  Dustin Johnson, Tri State runner-up a year ago gets the two seed.  Two time Washington State Champ Nick Bayer comes in at number 3 seed, with Mitch Steed of Emerald Ridge and Cadet all american Curtis Berger of Hermiston getting the 4th and 5th seeds.
