Seeded seventh entering the national tournament, Onufer went 5-2 to place fifth. He opened with a 5:33 pin of the Citadel's Turtogtokh Luvsandorj and a 6-0 decision over Rider's Jim Resnick, before losing 4-1 to No. 2 Andrew Howe of Wisconsin in the quarterfinals. He rebounded with a 9-6 decision over No. 11 Aaron Janssen of Iowa and a 7-6 decision over Hofstra's Paul Gillespie but lost in the consolation semifinals to No. 5 Colt Sponseller of Ohio State, 3-2. He won his final match of the tournament with a 5-4 decision over No. 4 Josh Asper of Maryland. He entered the tournament ranked sixth in the nation by InterMat.

Onufer qualified for the NCAAs after another dominant performance at the West Regional to earn his third first-team All-WWC accolade. He collected a pin in the first round and major decision in the semifinals before earning a 9-3 decision in the final. Onufer went 12-0 against the WWC in 2010-11 and has yet to lose to a conference opponent in his career. During the tournament he also became the 10th UW wrestler to earn more than 100 career victories.

Onufer opened the season as the champion at the Cowboy Open in Laramie and at the Reno Tournament of Champions to earn WWC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 21. He was also named Reno's Outstanding Wrestler. Onufer went on to post a perfect 5-0 mark at the Virginia Duals and notched eight more wins before falling to two ranked opponents on UW's trip to Oklahoma. He rebounded to win nine of his final 11 matches of the season. After the season, he was named UW's Everett Lantz Most Outstanding Wrestler.

2009-10: In his sophomore year, Onufer was a major part of the Wyoming team that won the 2010 West Regional team title, as well as the 2010 WWC Regular Season Dual team title.

He posted an overall record of 28-7 at 165 pounds, 9-0 in the WWC and 10-3 in duals. Onufer scored 48 team dual points and for the season had eight pins, one technical fall, as well as 10 major decisions. He was also clearly dominant at his weight class within the league. He won five of six dual matches by bonus-point margin (two pins, two major decisions and a tech fall).

In addition to his second NCAA West Regional title and first-team All-WWC honor, Onufer also placed first at the Cowboy Open, third at the Las Vegas Invite and fifth at the Body Bar Classic. In Las Vegas he knocked off two-time All-American and No. 6 ranked Andy Rendos from Bucknell twice.

At the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Onufer earned the No. 8 seed, but ended his season with a disappointing 1-2 record at the event.

He was a two-time WWC Wrestler of the Week during the year and missed nearly a month of the season in late December and early January with a knee injury.

2008-09: Onufer qualified for the NCAA Tournament and won the 174-pound title at the West Regional tournament as a redshirt freshman.

He went 2-2 at the NCAA Tournament and beat tough opponents from Virginia Tech and Penn. Onufer finished the year with a season record of 44-11. That mark tied him for fifth on UW's All-Time Single Season Victories list with Wes Gasner (1982-83).

He also finished with 14 pins during the season, putting himself 10th on the UW All-Time Single Season Pins list. Onufer tallied five major decisions and two technical falls. He did not lose to a WWC opponent all season, going 8-0, and was 14-4 in dual matches. Onufer opened the season with 15 straight wins.

Amateur Wrestling News included him on their All-Rookie Fourth Team and he was named WWC Wrestler of the Week, Nov. 18, after winning the Cowboy Open. His West Regional title earned him first-team All-WWC honors. Other tournament finishes of note for Onufer included placing third at Reno, fourth in Omaha and seventh in Las Vegas.

2007-08: Onufer turned heads during his redshirt year with an overall record of 15-2, including seven pins and five major decisions. He is one of 10 UW wrestlers that used the season to redshirt. Shane won the Cowboy Open (Amateur Division), took third at the Kaufman Brand Tournament in Omaha, was second at the Utah Valley Open and won the Glen Brand Tournament in Omaha.

High School: Onufer was a two-time Washington state champion and was a Cadet Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals All-American, placing third in both. Shane was undefeated his senior season and won the Rocky Mountain Regional and the Tri-State Tournament. He also pinned his way through the state tournament his senior year. Shane was runner-up at state his sophomore year and fourth as a freshman. Onufer also lettered twice in olympic weightlifting.

Personal: Born June 29, 1989 in Tacoma, Wash. He is the son of Tatiana Grace and Craig Onufer. His father Craig, wrestled at South Dakota State and earned All-American honors there. Shane has one sister, Michalle. He is a communication major at UW and is an intern in the Athletics Media and Public Relations office for the 2010-11 school year.
