The Cal Poly Mustangs look to start off the season opening at Home taking on CSU Fullerton

John Azevedo returned to his third straight appearance in NCAA Championship finals during his senior year, and everyone thought it would be his third straight second place finish. It didn't work out that way, and he became an NCAA champion, compiling a 122-2 collegiate record.

John Azevedo then went on to build off his collegiate success on the freestyle scene. He became an Olympian in the boycotted games in 1980 and placed fourth in the world in 1982.

After retiring from personal competition, Azevedo built a dynasty high school program at Calvary Chapel High School in California. In his twelve years as head coach of this high school program, his team won seven state titles in a division that included 800 + other programs that competed in California's state tournament.

John Azevedo then went on to take the head coaching position at Cal Poly. Since 2003-04, his first year as head coach, he has consistently brought his team into the top 25 schools in the country.
